June may feel like you’re late to the gardening game, but trust me—it’s still the perfect time to grow something beautiful. In fact, this is when the garden really starts to come alive. The soil is warm, the sun is strong, and so many summer-loving plants are just getting started. Whether you’re a first-time gardener or just filling in gaps from spring, there’s plenty you can plant right now to enjoy fresh produce and vibrant blooms all season long.
Here’s what I’m sowing and transplanting this week in my garden:
🥕 Carrots – These root crops do well in loose, well-drained soil. I’m succession planting small rows every few weeks for a steady harvest later this summer.
🍆 Eggplant – I’m adding sturdy transplants that will love the heat and reward me with glossy purple fruit through late summer.
🥬 Lettuces – Believe it or not, you can still plant heat-tolerant lettuce varieties in shady corners or containers. I use these for fresh, cut-and-come-again greens.
🌱 Beans – Quick to germinate and fun to watch climb. I’m planting both bush beans and pole beans for a little variety and vertical interest.
🌸 Seasonal Flowers – I always add a few blooms for pollinators and pure joy. Zinnias, cosmos, and sweet peas are go-to picks that thrive in summer heat.
